China has one of the longest history and culture in the world that can be traced back to many thousand years ago. It is also one of largest and the most populated countries in the world. Due to my recent visit to China to learn more about Chinese language and culture I have befriended with many locals and had the great opportunities to travel across China. I have complied up a list of the most magical places in China voted and agreed by locals.

1. Huangshan The Yellow Mountain, Anhui Province
Located in Anhui Province in the mid-east of China The Yellow Mountain is arguably one of the most stunning mountain ranges in China. The mountain peaks soar above the cloud level with many mysterious and incredible spots on different peaks to be discovered. One of the most famous attractions include the famous ‘Welcome Pine Tree’ which appears on back the Chinese 5-yuan bank notes!
2. Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Province
Jiuzhaigou National Park is one of the most precious nature reserves on Earth. The park is filled with countless numbers of lakes (including the deepest lake in China) and beautiful valleys combined to create the signature colourful breathtaking scenery.
3. Leshan Giant Buddha, Sichuan Province
Leshan Giant Buddha is named ‘the giant’ for a definite reason. It is the largest stone-buddha statue in the World standing (or sitting) at over 71 ft tall. What makes it even more special is that it is a merely man-made statue that has been slowly carved off the cliff-face over 100 years!
4. Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province
Zhangjiajie is like the settings of movie Avatar in real life, these gigantic limestone pinnacles only seem like they can only existed in other planets. Also, please note that it can be a quite a challenge hike for most people to reach the top but the view in the end will make everything so worth it, at least that is what rumours say.
5. Great Wall Of China
Great Wall of China is truly one of its kind, it is no doubt the longest wall by miles. Great Wall of China stretches across China crossing multiple provinces, it took 20 years and many numbers of renovations to complete the wall. Over 10 million people across the globe comes to witness this one of the 7 new Wonders of the World every year. The most popular part to visit is the wall near the capital Beijing.
6. Li River, Guangxi
The serenity of Li River and the mountains surrounding a cozy small fisherman village makes it one of the most peaceful places on Earth. This is the only few places where you can witness the special tradition that have been passed on for many generations where fishermen train their birds to help them in fishing.
7. Longsheng Rice Terrace, Guangxi
Longsheng Rice Terrace is considered one of the world’s most beautiful nature wonders. Formed by countless number of green and yellow rice terraces the whole scenery is uniquely beautiful.
8. Terracotta Army, Shaanxi Province
You may remember this place from the famous movie ‘The Mummy’, Terracotta Army is one of the world’s most discoveries having found only slightly over 50 years ago. It was unearthed totally by accident by a farmer digging to the ground for water to find the tomb filled with thousands of soldier and horse statues as it is believed to accompany the emperors to their after-life. The excavation is still active as they keep finding more and more hidden tombs every other years.
9. Zhangye Danxia, Gansu Province
Zhangye Danxia colourful rock formations looks like it comes out straight of a painting. This so-called “China’s Rainbow Mountains” is a result of the combination of red sandstones and mineral deposits.
10. Potala Palace, Tibet
Right at the centre of the Lhasa the capital of Tibet, Potala Palace is the closest you can get to heaven. The sacred holy temple is the highest ancient palace in the world. The complex consists of hundreds of rooms and shrines surrounded by countless monasteries right on the top of a mountain.
